Placements and internships

Hosting a placement or internship allows you to work with talented students before they graduate.

Work-related activity is embedded within our courses. Many students complete year-long placements, gaining practical experience in roles related to their academic studies.

Our students are also interested in shorter work experiences and internships. These can take place:

  • during the summer
  • part-time during term
  • after graduation.

Real-world employer projects

We recognise the value of collaborative and experiential learning. Project-based work is embedded within our curriculum to help students develop essential employability skills.

Your organisation can present students with a real business challenge. Students can offer free consultancy, practical implementation, fresh perspectives, and creative solutions while gaining valuable experience.

Projects can include:

  • prototypes
  • minimum viable products
  • marketing strategies
  • practical technology solutions.

These opportunities can be particularly valuable for organisations that lack the necessary in-house capacity or specialist expertise.

For more complex or longer-term needs, we can also support collaborative partnerships through government-funded schemes. These partnerships can connect your organisation with academic expertise to support innovation and create long-term value.

Our partnership with Â鶹´«Ã½AV University on project-based learning connects academic theory with practical experience.

By involving students in live business challenges, we help them develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and reflection.

As a major national employer, this collaboration also helps us identify strong candidates for our One-Year Placement and Graduate Management Training Programme.

We are proud to work with a university that embeds project-based learning within its curriculum and prepares students for the workplace. Together, we are creating meaningful opportunities for students, building a talent pipeline, and delivering value to businesses.

Two What A Host interns posing for a selfie

We first worked with Â鶹´«Ã½AV University on a consultancy project. Two groups of students provided valuable insights into email marketing, social media, search engine optimisation, and paid advertising.

Their recommendations were clearly presented and supported by step-by-step implementation plans. We were so impressed that we employed one of the students to help improve our email flows and campaigns.

This year, we also welcomed two interns. One focused on social media strategy, providing valuable support while I managed the many responsibilities of running a business. The other worked on search engine optimisation. Her advanced knowledge impressed me, and I learnt a great deal from working with her.

I encourage other organisations to take part in projects like this. Fresh perspectives from well-prepared and motivated emerging professionals can be extremely valuable.

The event was well organised and well attended by students and employers. It maintained a positive atmosphere throughout the day.

It gave us an excellent opportunity to introduce students to Civil Service careers, including:

  • work experience
  • apprenticeships and T Levels
  • the Fast Stream
  • direct-entry roles
  • part-time operational opportunities.

Thank you for including us in such a successful event.

Our own experience of studying at Â鶹´«Ã½AV has made Tanya and me proud to support other Â鶹´«Ã½AV graduates. As the female founders of Kit & Caboodle, Creative Events Agency of the Year 2024, we particularly value opportunities to help women gain practical experience at our London offices.

We have welcomed several Â鶹´«Ã½AV students through internships and collaborative projects. Two have since progressed into permanent roles with us:

  • Mercy Benn-Itua, BSc Information Technology & Business Intelligence, 2024, is now a Project Manager
  • Aishwarya Mane, MSc Marketing Management, 2023, is now a Marketing Executive.
